Alice Sebold is an American author and memoirist best known for her critically acclaimed debut novel, “The Lovely Bones,” which was published in 2002.
She was born on September 6, 1963, in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Sebold attended Syracuse University, where she earned a degree in creative writing. After graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in writing.
Her first published work was a memoir titled “Lucky,” which detailed her experience of being raped as a college student.
The book was a critical and commercial success, and it helped raise awareness about sexual assault.
Sebold’s most famous work is “The Lovely Bones,” a novel about a young girl named Susie Salmon who is raped and murdered, and then watches over her family and friends from heaven.
The book was a #1 New York Times bestseller and was made into a film directed by Peter Jackson in 2009. Sebold has also written two other novels: “The Almost Moon” and “The Lovely Bones: The Graphic Novel.”
