Armed robbers attacking Police Anti-Robbery Squad on our highways is a job of an insider, security analyst and Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFSC) Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso has said.
Dr. Vladimir Antwi – Danso is of the view that, looking at the corrupt nature of the country, it is possible for somebody in the security service leaks information to those criminals who attack the police in the Eastern Region.
His statement comes after news broke suggesting that a police bus carrying officers of the Anti-Robbery Squad sent to the Eastern Region was attacked by robbers on their way.
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021 dawn, highway robbers reportedly attacked the police anti-robbery squad deployed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr.George Akuffo Dampare.
The incident occurred on the Akyem Ettukrom to Bunso road. The report suggests that the robbers were wielding AK47 laying ambush in a quest to rob commuters.
However, speaking on GHOne TV in an interview via Zoom monitored by MyNewsGh.com, when asked if the incident could be linked to an insider work, Dr. Vladimir Antwi–Danso immediately retorted “it could be an inside job”.
“Ghana is so corrupt, and we have had instances where policemen have been involved in such activities of being in bed with these bad guys. It could be also that the guys are very much smart that they are able to know when and how the police do their work and act”, he added.
Dr. Vladimir Antwi–Danso continued his argument that there is always the possibility that an insider leaked information adding that investigations will come out with what it is that the robbers were able to know the timing and how they should attack.
He went ahead to attribute the incident to the way and manner in which recruitment is done into the police service.
