On Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region [Bantama to be precise], a young man by the name of Kofi, was arrested by the Bantama Divisional Police Command for theft and other fraudulent acts in the vicinity.

According to information gathered by a Citi News reporter who was present at the time of the incident, the suspect came to buy a mobile phone (an iPhone 11 Pro Max) from a mobile phone vendor by the name Yamaha Yakubu just by the road.

Kofi the suspect, after searching through the phones and getting what he wants from the shop, began to ask Yakubu, the victim, about the price of the phone like any other customer would do his or her seller.

However, Yamaha Yakubu realized afterward that he was actually wasting time so as to gain a favorable atmosphere for him to operate. So when everyone was gone and the two of them were left in the shop, Kofi quickly pulled a sharp knife from his small bag and threatened to kill the victim if he makes any noise.

“He then seized the iPhone 11 Pro Max, took all the cash I was having on me, and left off. Luckily enough for me, it was the roadside and so I shouted, “armed robber… armed robber…” This caught the attention of everyone who chased the man running for his life. They eventually caught him and started beating him,” he narrated.

The police came to the scene and arrested him, took all the items he seized, and was taken to the police station for further investigations and interrogations.

Speaking to Citi News, some eyewitnesses said that this is not the first time this has happened to someone in the vicinity and that not too long ago, a mobile money vendor around the vicinity was also attacked and robbed armed robbers in black face coverings who sometimes operate in broad daylight.

He, therefore, called on the police to safeguard lives and properties in such areas as theirs to curb any form of future occurrences. Crimes, frauds, killings, and other social vices are on the rage and everyone must be careful.
