Emma Bates is an American long-distance runner who was born on February 5, 1992, in Elk River, Minnesota.
She attended Boise State University in Idaho, where she competed in cross-country and track and field events.
Bates has had a successful career as a professional runner. In 2016, she won the USATF Half Marathon Championships and finished sixth in the Olympic Trials for the marathon.
In 2018, she won the USATF 25K Championships and finished fourth in the Chicago Marathon.
In 2019, Bates won the USATF Marathon Championships and set a personal best time of 2:25:27, which qualified her for the 2020 Olympic Trials.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Olympic Trials were postponed to 2021.
Bates finished seventh in the marathon at the 2020 Olympic Trials, just missing out on a spot on the Olympic team.
Bates has also had success in cross-country events. In 2019, she won the USATF Cross Country Championships and finished fourth at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
Off the track, Bates is known for her advocacy work for mental health awareness and her support of the nonprofit organization, Brave Like Gabe, which supports rare cancer research.
