Mitch McConnell’s wife is Elaine Chao. She is a former Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush and former Secretary of Transportation under President Donald Trump. Chao was the first Asian-American woman to hold a Cabinet-level position in U.S. history.

Chao was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was eight years old. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in economics and then earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
