Some Muslim students were severely flogged by their teachers for attending a birthday party of their secular friend and drinking alcohol.
Per the Arabic teachings which the student knew very well, they were not allowed to drink alcohol or attend parties where non-believers gather to have fun.
On the back of that knowledge, these students were accused by their superiors when they shared photos from the birthday party they attended on social media.
They were instantly subjected to severe brutality. The lady amongst them was publicly flogged by three teachers until she sustained bruises all over her body. The men were also beaten until they sustained deep marks on their backs. Reports suggest that the student did not take alcohol but yoghurt at the party but the teachers would not listen.
Narrating the incident on social media, @Kr3wmatic, an eyewitness said the Muslims do not see anything wrong with the inhumane action since the Qu’ran has given the teachers and the Mudarash (Arabic School) the authority to subject any student to severe punishment if they were found to have broken any of the dictates.
Many believe the extremism of Islam needs to be condemned. This unfortunate incident happened in Nigeria.
He shared the following:
According to @EkunStoner ,”This Muslim bothers and sister went to celebrate one of their friend on his birthday, so they posted this picture and their Alfa saw it. He thought they drank alcohol, but they only had Yoghurt.”
With regard to the punishment of the drinker in this world, the punishment is flogging, according to the consensus of the fuqaha. But there is some difference of opinion as to the number of lashes, 80/40.
“Narrated by Anas bin Malik: The Prophet beat a drunk with palm-leaf stalks and shoes. And Abu Bakr gave (such a sinner) forty lashes.” Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 764.
“An-Nu’man or the son of An-Nu’man was brought to the Prophet on a charge of drunkenness. So the Prophet ordered all the men present in the house, to beat him. So all of them beat him, and I was also one of them who beat him with shoes.” Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 765
“Abu Huraira said, “A man who drank wine was brought to the Prophet. The Prophet said, ‘Beat him!” Abu Huraira added, “So some of us beat him with our hands, and some with their shoes, and some with their garments (by twisting it) like a lash..” Volume 8, Book 81, Number 768.
“Narrated by As-Sa’ib bin Yazid: We used to strike the drunks with our hands, shoes, clothes (by twisting it into the shape of lashes) during the lifetime of the Prophet, Abu Bakr and the early part of ‘Umar’s caliphate.
But during the last period of ‘Umar’s caliphate, he used to give the drunk forty lashes; and when drunks became mischievous and disobedient, he used to scourge them eighty lashes.” Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 770 (2/2)
