The National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has rubbished claims by a section of Ghanaians claiming he made the donation towards the building of the National Cathedral after he was influenced by the leadership of the Christian community and some political actors.
“They did not beg him that we have come to you so Chief Imam look for money for us and so on and so forth”, Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu has said.
“He himself said that look, you have respected me, you’ve shown me this kind of love so my symbolic gesture to what you have given me, is to do this”, he continued.
Last week, the Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu donated GH¢ 50,000 towards the Cathedral construction, saying he is hopeful the money will aid the speedy construction of the national edifice.
After the announcement of his contribution, some Ghanaians criticized him for donating the amount for the construction of the controversial National Cathedral neglecting people of the Zongo community while lauded him for the gesture
Meanwhile, a former Ambassador to Namibia Abdul Rahman Harruna Atta has said that the National Chief Imam donating such an amount towards National Cathedral construction has nothing to do with peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians.
He claimed that the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu is employing sophistry because peaceful coexistence has been in Ghana long overdue.
But speaking on Metro TV in a studio discussion monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu insisted that the action by the Islamic leader is out of his own kindness.
“This is the Chief Imam’s elderly wisdom; he is a mystic, he is wise person, he reflects so much, he has certain beliefs, he has ethics, and so out of the respect that they gave him, he reflected on his beliefs on what the Quran says that stretch a hand to the other side as basic to deepen relationships. So that in future you can live in peace”, he noted.
