Dumsor is currently the most popular word in Ghana now. It has become synonymous with the intermittent supply of electricity. The Akufo-Addo government is of the view that this is not lack of funds or power but rather the maintenance of some transmission lines as the cause of the erratic power supply.
Today, Wednesday, April 14, 2021 on Joy News’ ‘AM Show’ there was a heated debate between Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso and Alhassan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North over the issue of dumsor. As the debate heated, Mamavi Aboagye, the host tried to change the conversation and asked how Suhuyini felt about the appointment of Osafo Maafo as Senior Advisor to President Akufo-Addo.
According to Suhuyini, this was no surprise and familiar with this government which capped its ministers to control popular protests and later appointed the same people into positions. He noted that this was just to put more drain on the country’s coffers.
Stephen Amoah however disagreed and maintained that Osafo Maafo has performed over time and deserves the position. “In terms of ability, capability, experience every Tom, Dick and Harry know that he deserves it. He has demonstrated in this country that he is able. A lot of people even expected him to be president. If he had been in the NDC probably they would have given him a bigger position than that” Stephen Amoah said.
Now, the question remains that, what is the function of the Council of State and other Advisory bodies? Does the President need a Senior Advisor?
