A woman escaped narrowly after a man who had been following her up close tried to break into her apartment, Eyewitness News reports.
It occurred at 2 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, at a multi-unit residential building near East 168 Street and Sherman Avenue.
According to police, the man followed the 50-year-old woman into her building before attempting to enter her apartment.
He gave up after she shut the door, and while she was not hurt, she was shaken.
The victim did not want to be identified, but as she returned home two weeks ago, she mustered the courage to speak about that day.
“There were two guys outside looking suspicious,” she explained. “He followed me inside the building and said ‘Miss, miss’ twice,” she explained.
She stated that she knew he was around the corner seconds later and quickly tried to open the apartment lock.
Her instincts were correct. She stated that after watching the video, she realizes she was extremely fortunate.
“I’m scared, I was thinking what if, what if I hadn’t locked the top door, what if I hadn’t locked the top door, he could’ve gotten me,” she said.
According to the victim, she has never seen the man before. She stated that her guard has been activated, and that her husband and family are now watching her leave the building.
